Welcome to cafe neko to kotori tei, a charming little café nestled in the snowy streets of Shimogoryo, Furano, Hokkaido. This delightful spot offers a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for escaping the chill of winter while indulging in some comforting homemade dishes. Run by a lovely owner, affectionately referred to as "the aunt," this café radiates a cozy, homely feel that makes you want to linger long after the last bite.

The culinary offerings here are a delightful blend of simplicity and heart. Customers rave about the indulgent apple pie, which is said to be a must-try – its heavenly scent wafting through the café is simply irresistible. As one happy patron, Pattama Sapmak, noted, "The apple pie is so great," evoking the feeling of homemade comfort we all crave. Complement your meal with the unique cocoa or matcha drinks that locals describe as "cool," bringing a refreshing twist to your café experience.

While the menu doesn't boast an extensive variety, the sardine pasta dressed in olive oil has garnered attention for its generous portion size and delightful flavor, perfect for sharing. One satisfied customer, Kelly, aptly expressed how "the portion of the pasta was huge," making it an ideal choice for two. Just like her, visitors can revel in the satisfaction of filling their bellies with home-cooked goodness.

But it's not just the food that makes cafe neko to kotori tei special; it's the genuine hospitality that welcomes you through the door. With only one person managing orders, cooking, and serving, the owner connects with her guests in such a wonderful way that it feels less like a café and more like visiting an old friend. Francis Ooi noted, “Even though she is busy, she still makes an effort to chat with you,” embodying the warmth that can only be found in a truly hospitable environment.

The café's interior is decorated with care, filled with interesting books that invite you to sit back and unwind. Bea Bascuguin mentioned being drawn in by the charm of the place and the fascinating titles on the shelves, one being the enchanting "Hanio's Diary." This cozy corner not only fills your belly but also nourishes your mind.

Whether you're a local or a traveler, cafe neko to kotori tei is not to be missed during your visit to Furano. Come for the comfort food, stay for the delightful conversations, and capture the essence of Hokkaido's warmth in a quiet café setting. Make sure to drop by when in town – you'll find a slice of home in this little gem.

Extremely satisfied with all the food! It’s so yummy and comforting for the cold weather. Pancake was a tad dry but still good, could be also coz we were too full already! The portion of the pasta was huge lucky we only ordered one for two pax to share. This is a homey joint with just one lady taking order, cooking, serving, clearing, cashier ; who’s likely the owner :) Furano feels like a quiet & quaint town.. for anyone who is a cafe lover and love good food must definitely put this on your check list

It was such a cozy place, hosted by a very lovely lady. She talked with us with such grace that I feel like if I were able to speak Japanese, I could be chatting with her for a long time. I wanted to take a photo with her but I am a bit shy. I also loved that there are many interesting books inside! I sneaked snapshots of some pages from the recipe book but what I love the most is Hanio's Diary. We ordered pasta with sardines and onion leeks (I forgot the exact name of the dish) but it was delicious. We had coffee drinks too. The dining experience has the warmth of a home.

The charming part about this place is the lady who run the place. Lovely graceful lady handling all the orders & cooking by herself. Even thou she is busy, she still makes an effort to chat with you and makes you feel very welcoming. The Sardine Pasta with olive oil is nice. Quiet place to chill. Love how she decorate the place. However, there is no cat on sight here. :) Free parking.

Highly, highly recommend dropping by this cafe for lunch. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by the sight of two deer (as pictured), who apparently frequent the place. The lady who runs the place is similarly wonderful and warm. She doesn't speak much English, but if you have basic Japanese skills, she is fun to converse with. The atmosphere is warm - similar to a cute little cottage. In the centre of the room is a large table full of Japanese books (so if you're learning Japanese, you can practise while sipping coffee). The coffee was pretty standard, but the food was very good. I ordered the Sardine pasta for 1000en (very cheap coming from Australia), which was a standout, and my recommendation if you happen to come by. Please do try out this cafe. You will not be disappointed.
